Bolu Ajayi
@boluwatifeajayi · Backend Software Engineer
I design backend architecture for production systems: distributed services, event-driven infrastructure over RabbitMQ, and cloud-native platforms on AWS and Kubernetes. I build AI-powered features into that infrastructure and own it end to end in production. 6+ years leading engineering at early-stage companies, with the full-stack range to ship the complete product when that's what the work needs.

About Me
I started out writing frontend interfaces, first at Black Copper, then at Falcon Aerospace, where I grew into full-stack engineering: building the backend APIs and admin tooling behind the products I was shipping, not just the screens on top of them. Somewhere in that stretch, the part I found most interesting stopped being the UI and became what was happening underneath it. How services talk to each other. How state stays consistent when three things can fail independently. How a system behaves at 2am when nobody's watching.
That pull led me into backend ownership. At CGLS I built the backend and geospatial data model behind SmartSustain end to end, and at Auqli I own the backend architecture of a live-shopping marketplace running at up to 50,000 concurrent users: orders, payments, wallets, and real-time auctions. These days my focus sits at the intersection of distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and AI-powered software. I'm doing an MSc in Software Engineering, building a workflow runtime for AI agents, and contributing production code to the AWS CDK. I still ship full-stack when a project needs it. I just design it backend first.
Backend
REST and event-driven APIs, distributed systems, RabbitMQ, payments, WebSockets, and observability.
Full Stack
React, Next.js, React Native, TypeScript. Complete product ownership from schema to shipped UI.
Cloud
AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, Linux, CI/CD. Infrastructure, observability, and production deployments.

Experience
Senior Software Engineer
currentAuqli
- ·Own the backend architecture of a social live-shopping marketplace covering orders, payments, wallets, logistics, and real-time auctions, scaling it to support up to 50,000 concurrent users at peak.
- ·Designed the v2 order lifecycle end to end: the state machine and service interfaces behind multi-carrier shipping, payment capture and verification, returns, refunds, and dispute resolution.
- ·Engineered webhook infrastructure spanning three payment and logistics providers, with signature verification, delivery logs, and replay endpoints that cut incident diagnosis from hours to minutes.
- ·Set technical direction for the team, governed API evolution, ran code review, and introduced AI-assisted development workflows without loosening review or testing standards.
Software Engineer (Contract)
CGLS Technology
- ·Lead engineer on SmartSustain, an Innovate UK funded platform scoring housing-site sustainability for planning assessors across five West Yorkshire councils.
- ·Designed the backend and geospatial data model, with ETL pipelines unifying millions of postcode and government dataset records into queryable spatial collections.
- ·Built the scoring engine: explainable 0 to 100 indices across environmental, economic, social, and regulatory pillars for 700+ candidate sites.
- ·Shipped an explain endpoint that decomposes every score for audit, and an LLM-backed assistant that answers natural-language questions about a site. Optimised spatial queries with geospatial indexing and a Redis caching layer, and provisioned the full AWS deployment from first commit to production.
Full Stack Software Engineer
Falcon Aerospace
- ·Designed and built internal platforms for a private aviation business on Next.js and Node.js, deployed and operated on Azure. This is where I grew from frontend into full-stack engineering, owning backend APIs alongside the interfaces on top of them.
- ·Delivered an HR system covering employee records, leave, and multi-stage approval workflows, replacing manual paper-based processes.
- ·Engineered flight scheduling and crew rostering tooling, defining the backend APIs and admin dashboards operations staff use daily, plus push notifications and Progressive Web App delivery for mobile approvals.
- ·Built the customer-facing booking interface in React and optimised the booking flow, improving session retention by 22%.

Production contributions to projects I rely on, with live status pulled straight from GitHub so nothing here goes stale. The largest so far is engine support for SQL Server 2025 in the AWS Cloud Development Kit, merged after issue discussion, design review, and maintainer feedback.
aws/aws-cdk
#38401feat(rds): add SqlServerEngineVersion constants for engine v17
SQL Server 2025 (engine v17) is now available on RDS, but SqlServerEngineVersion had no constants for it. Added them through issue discussion, design review, and maintainer feedback, then collaborated with the AWS team on follow-up compatibility work for the new SQL Server Developer editions.
kelektiv/node-cron
#1075fix(crontime): fall back to UTC when resolved timezone is invalid
Fixed a crash in node-cron where an invalid or unresolvable IANA timezone string would break schedule resolution instead of degrading gracefully.
